This article says that the US has withdrawn its ambassador to Syria. Perhaps that means we will be invading Syria prior to going into Iran. It would make sense from a strategic standpoint. We take some of the pressure off of Israel, secure our western flank and provide Mediterranean ports that the Iranians can’t hit as easily (as opposed to Persian Gulf ports which are well within missle range), through which to transport troops and supplies to the front on the Iraq/Iran border.
