Nobel Peace Prize

William of Occam said that the simplest answer that fits all the available facts must be presumed to be the truth absent positive evidence to the contrary. With Occam’s Razor in mind, how should one view the Nobel Committee’s selection of Wangari Maathai for the Nobel Peace Prize? Ms. Maathai, a Kenyan ecologist and biologist who was selected for her work on greenbelts, delivered herself of this quote, “In fact it (the HIV virus) is created by a scientist for biological warfare”, biological warfare she apparently believes to be targeted against blacks.

The Nobel Committee would correctly not select someone for this prize who’s views included the notion that black people were diluting the gene pool with inferior offspring. I was going to say that they would not select someone who believed that an international Jewish conspiracy was controling the world’s banking system, but they have already given one to Yassar Arafat. The point is that people with whako conspiracy theories are not generally eligible (or at least shouldn’t be eligible) for Nobel Peace Prizes. So why did they select the obviously unhinged Ms. Maathai?

It could be that they are Anti-American and Anti-western culture, seeking to destroy the very fabric of the society that makes their existence possible. William of Occam would probably think that’s too complicated so I’m going with the theory that they are doing serious drugs. My theory has as much evidence to support it as Ms. Maathai’s.
